Woman found dead in St Catharines home (Update: suspect identified)

Update: 5 p.m.

On Friday, May 29th, 2020, officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) were called to a residence on Densgrove Drive near Vine Street, in the City of St. Catharines for a report of an assault.

Officers arrived on scene and located a female in her 60's deceased.

Gregory M. Tkachyk (60 years old) of St. Catharines, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with the alleged offence of:

  •  1st degree murder.

Tkachyk took part in a video bail hearing on today’s date at the Robert S. K Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street, in the City of St. Catharines. A publication ban was ordered at that time, as such the Niagara Regional Police are unable to provide further evidentiary details on the matter.

The identity of the victim is not being released at the request of the next of kin.

On Friday, May 29, 2020, at approximately 4:40 p.m. 1 District – St Catharines uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) were called to a house on Densgrove Road near Vine Street in St. Catharines. Officers responded there for a report of an assault.

Officers arrived on scene to find a woman deceased in the house.

As a result of the initial investigation, Uniform officers have arrested a man at the scene.

The death investigation is being treated as a homicide. The scene is being held, and the matter is now being investigated by detectives from the Homicide Unit with assistance from the 1 District Detective Office, The Forensic Services Unit and the Coroner.
