Welland weapons call leads to multiple charges

Police found the individual and say they had a black BB gun, brass knuckles, and a butterfly knife

A Port Colborne resident is facing charges after officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to a weapons clal on April 9.

On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 10:43 p.m, 3 District (Welland/Fonthill) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service attended a gas station in the area of Niagara Street and Thorold Road in the City of Welland in response to a weapons call.

Officers arrived in the area and located a male matching the description and placed the male under arrest.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect was in possession of a black BB gun, brass knuckles, and a butterfly knife.

Coty Ducheno (30 years old) of Port Colborne was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a weapon
  • Fail to comply with release order (three counts)
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon (two counts)

Ducheno was held in custody pending a video bail hearing that is expected to take place on April 10, 2024 at the Robert S.K Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharines.
