Welland man faces weapons charges after reports he barricaded himself in a residence

At approximately 11:25 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, 3 District (Welland) uniform officers were called to the area of Nelles Rd and McNaughton Rd in the City of Welland following the report of an armed barricaded male inside a residence.

As a result of the information initially received, out of concern for public safety, the Emergency Task Unit (ETU) as called for assistance.

The situation was de-escalated and the male was taken into custody without incident by officers with the 3 District Detective Office.

A subsequent search warrant at the home on Thursday, June 25, 2020, resulted in the seizure of six firearms.

28-year-old Connor Armstrong of Welland is facing the following charges:

  • Uttering Death Threats
  • Assault
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Point a Firearm
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm (x2)
  • Possession of a Firearm with Ammunition
  • Breach of Recognizance of Bail (x2)
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm (x2)
  • Possession of a Prohibited Firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited device (x3).

Armstrong was held in custody prior to a video bail hearing on Friday, June 26, 2020, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.
