Victim airlifted to hospital after stabbing in Welland

Niagara Regional Police say a young man was airlifted to hospital following a stabbing early this morning in Welland.

Police say at 1:53 a.m. emergency services responded to a residence near Cottonwood Crescent and Tumblewood Place.

Uniform officers from 3 District (Welland / Pelham) located a male victim in his 20s suffering from stab wounds.

Niagara EMS paramedics provided treatment to the victim for serious injuries.

He was initially transported to a local hospital and then transported by Ornge air ambulance to an out-of-region hospital for further care, police said in a news release.  

Police said they believe this is not a random event and there is no ongoing threat to community safety stemming from the incident.
