Vehicle description released in fatal Niagara-on-the-Lake hit and run

Detectives believe that the suspect vehicle that left the scene is a dark-coloured Dodge Ram pickup truck, with a model year between 2010 and 2020

Aug. 20 update

The investigation into this fatal fail to remain collision remains ongoing by detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Detectives have been able to determine that the suspect vehicle that left the scene is a dark-coloured Dodge Ram pickup truck, with a model year between 2010 and 2020. It will be missing the passenger side, side-view mirror housing.  

The public and collision repair businesses are asked to be on the lookout for Dodge Ram pickup trucks with consistent damage.

Detectives are appealing to members of the public and businesses in following areas to review their closed-circuit cameras for a matching vehicle before or after the collision:

  • Niagara Stone Road between Concession 7 Road and the "Old Town Area", Niagara on the Lake (10:20 - 11:20 p.m. Aug. 17, 2019)
  • Queenston Road and York Road East and West of Concession 7 Road, Niagara on the Lake (10:50 - 11:20 p.m. Aug. 17, 2019)

Aug. 19 release

On Aug. 17, 2019, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to a report of a serious collision in the area of Concession 7 Road and Line 6 Road, in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Detectives from Collision Reconstruction and Forensics Services Units continued the subsequent investigation.

The investigation has learned that at approximately 10:52 p.m., a 33-year-old woman from Niagara on the Lake was the victim of a fail to remain collision.

The victim had been on foot at the side of the south bound lane of Concession 7 Road. The victim was struck by a southbound dark coloured pickup truck. The pickup truck did not stop and was last seen driving southbound away from the scene.

The victim was transported to an out of region hospital in critical condition. On Aug. 19, 2019, the victim died in hospital due to her injuries.

The suspect pickup truck is believed to have sustained damage to the passenger side as debris was found at the scene. The truck may be missing the passenger side mirror.

Detectives are appealing to members of the public and collision repair businesses in the area to be aware of the damage and to report any vehicle that may match the description.

Residents and businesses in the area of the collision with closed circuit cameras are asked to review their footage for the suspect pickup truck.
