Two students face sexual assault charges

In December of 2019 the Niagara Regional Police Service – Child Abuse Unit (CAU) commenced an investigation into an allegation of physical and sexual abuse of a child.

As a result detectives have conducted multiple interviews regarding the on campus conduct of multiple youths who are students at Ridley College in St. Catharines. The investigation centres on a time period between September of 2018 and August of 2019. 

On Jan. 15, 2020, two males under the age of 16, both international students, surrendered themselves to CAU detectives at the 2 District (Niagara Falls) police station. The males were arrested and are both charged with the following alleged offences:

  • Sexual Assault
  • Sexual Assault with a Weapon
  • Sexual Assault Party to the Offence

The two arrested males have been sent for a bail hearing on today's date at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines. 

The Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada prohibits the Niagara Regional Police Service from releasing the identity of the accused persons in this matter.

The victim in this matter is a male under the age of 16-years-old. 

The investigation remains ongoing. Detectives have reason to believe there may be more witnesses, potential suspects, and victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact CAU detectives at 905-688-4111, extension 5100.
