Two injured, one seriously, following St. Catharines altercation

At approximately 10:55 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, 1 District (St. Catharines) Uniform officers responded to the report of a male injured in the area of Chetwood Street and Lloyd Street in the City of St. Catharines. 

When officers arrived, they located a 30-year-old man a short distance away. He was transported to a local hospital then an out-of-area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. 

While police were on scene, they received notification of a second 51-year-old male in hospital with what appeared to be stab wounds. The second male has since been taken to an out-of-town hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. 

Investigation has revealed that an altercation occurred between the two males leading to the injuries. 

Detectives with 1 District Criminal Investigations Branch have arrested and charged 51-year-old Chad McCrae of the City of Welland with the following alleged offence:

  • aggravated assault 

McCrae is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Friday, June 28, 2019 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.
