Two injured in Port Colborne ATV crash

On Friday, Sept. 25, 2020 at approximately 8 p.m., members of the Niagara Regional Police 6 District (Port Colborne) responded with Niagara Emergency Medical Services (NEMS) to the area south of 'Ramey’s Bend' (Ramey Road / 3rd Concession area) along the Welland Canal for a report of an ATV accident.

Upon arrival, it was determined a southbound ATV was being operated along St. Lawrence Seaway property with two occupants in an unlit closed gravel road when the driver lost control and rolled the ATV ejecting both occupants.

Both parties were transported to a local hospital by paramedics. A 28-year-old female passenger from Welland suffered serious injuries and the 22-year-old driver suffered minor injuries.

As a result of an investigation into the incident the driver a 22-year-old man from Welland was charged with the following provincial offences:

  • Engaging in a prohibited activity contrary to section 2(1)(a)(ii) of the Trespass to Property Act
  • Drive off-road vehicle – no insurance contrary to section 15(1) of the Off Road Vehicle Act
  • Drive off-road Vehicle – no number plate contrary to section 3(1) of the Off Road Vehicle Act

Damage to the ATV is estimated at $5,500.
