Two face trafficking charges after nearly $50K in drugs seized in Wainfleet

Officers seized fentanyl, crystal meth, cocaine, firearms, ammunition and Canadian currency on Monday

Since November of 2020, detectives with the 3 District (Welland) Street Crime Unit, with the Niagara Regional Police Service, have been investigating the illegal sales of fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine from a residence in the area of Highway 3 and Forks Road East in Wainfleet.

As a result of the investigation, detectives were able to identify a male suspect.

On Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, the suspect was arrested with the assistance of the Emergency Task Unit and 1 District (St. Catharines) Street Crime Unit, with the Niagara Regional Police Service.

Subsequently, detectives executed a search warrant and seized 87 grams of fentanyl, 121 grams of cocaine, 48 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 250 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 28 rounds of .22 ammunition, a loaded revolver quick loader, eight rounds of 12 gauge, a bored out starter pistol, three firearm suppressors, a butterfly knife, and $2,615 in Canadian currency believed to be the proceeds of his drug sales. In total, the amount of drugs seized is estimated to be at a street value of $49,730.

Preston M. Woods (36 years old) of Wainfleet, was arrested and charged with the following offences of:
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance, to wit fentanyl, for the purpose of trafficking
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance, to wit cocaine, for the purpose of trafficking
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance, to wit crystal methamphetamine, for the purpose of trafficking
    •    Possession of proceed obtained by crime under $5,000
    •    Possession of a prohibited device, to wit; a firearms suppressor (three counts)
    •    Possession of a prohibited weapon, to wit; a butterfly style knife
    •    Possession of a prohibited device contrary to prohibition order, to wit; three firearms suppressors
    •    Possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order, to wit; a butterfly style knife
    •    Possession of ammunition contrary to prohibition order, to wit; 295 rounds of live ammunition
    •    Fail to comply with release order, not remain in residence
    •    Fail to comply with release order, possession of prohibited devices,
    •    Fail to comply with release order, possession of prohibited weapon,
    •    Fail to comply with release order, possession of ammunition, section
    •    Fail to comply with release order, possession of drug paraphernalia

Woods was held in custody pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place on Dec. 22, 2020 at the Robert S.K Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church St. in the City of St. Catharines.

Daniel Bott (43 years old) of Welland, was arrested and charged with the following offences of:
    •    Possession of a Controlled Substance for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl)
    •    Possession of a Controlled Substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
    •    Possession of a Controlled Substance for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine)

Bott was held in custody pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place on Dec. 22, 2020 at the Robert S.K Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church St. in the City of St. Catharines.
