Two charged in Welland altercation

At approximately 3:20 a.m. on Friday March 8, 2019 3 District (Welland) uniform officers were called to a residence in the area of West Main Street and Frazer Street in the City of Welland following the report of an altercation between two males.

Following the altercation, a 38-year-old male was airlifted to an out-of-town hospital for treatment.

Twenty-four-year-old Justin Coffin of the City of Welland is facing the alleged charge of:

  • Aggravated assault

Further investigation by Detectives with the 3 District (Welland) Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB), led to the following charges against 38-year-old Jason Dionne of the City of Welland:

  • Assault with a weapon

Dionne was released on an Officer in Charge (OIC) Promise to Appear (PTA) with a future court date of April 12, 2019.

Coffin is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Saturday, March 9, 2019 via video link at the John Sopinka courthouse in the City of Hamilton.
