Two arrested in human trafficking investigation

In February 2021, the Niagara Regional Police Service Human Trafficking Unit with the assistance of the Cybercrimes Unit, Child Abuse Unit, Uniform Patrol and District Detectives, commenced an investigation into allegations of human trafficking.

As a result of the investigation, detectives were able to identify a male and female suspect.

On Feb. 3, 2021, the two suspects were arrested.

Spencer Sloat (20 years old), of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with the following offences of:

  • Sexual assault
  • Assault
  • Administering noxious thing
  • Forcible confinement
  • Trafficking in persons under 18 years old
  • Material benefit - trafficking of a person under 18 years
  • Material benefit from sexual services provided by person under 18 years
  • Fail to comply with release order (two counts)

Carly Bluemeke  (28 years old), of Fort Erie was arrested and charged with the following offences of:

  • Sexual assault
  • Administering noxious thing
  • Forcible confinement
  • Trafficking in persons under 18 years old
  • Material benefit - trafficking of a person under 18 years
  • Material benefit from sexual services provided by person under 18 years
  • Fail to comply with release order

Sloat and Bluemeke are both currently being held in custody pending a video bail hearing that is expected to take place on Feb. 4, 2021, at the Robert S.K Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street, in the City of St. Catharines.
