Three teens face drug trafficking charges in St. Catharines

On April 11, 2020, the Niagara Regional Police Service 1 District – St. Catharines Street Crime Unit continued an investigation in the sale of illegal drugs in the area of Niagara Street and Church Street.

Three males were observed by detectives entering a multi-unit residence in the area of Niagara Street and Church Street. They then attended other addresses in the area. Detectives formed grounds to believe the three males were involved in the sale of illegal drugs.

Detectives subsequently arrested and charged all three males.

Jalen Saravia (19 years old) of Hamilton is charged with the alleged criminal offences of:
    •    Possession for the purpose of trafficking a Schedule I Substance - cocaine - sec.  5(2) CDSA
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance - oxycodone – sec. 4(1) CDSA
    •    Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000 sec 355(b) CC
    •    Fail to comply – probation order

Saravia was held in custody for a video bail hearing to the John Sopinka Courthouse (Hamilton) on April 12, 2020.

A 16-year-old male from Burlington is charged with the alleged criminal offences of:
    •    Possession for the purpose of trafficking a Schedule I Substance - cocaine - sec.  5(2) CDSA
    •    Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000 sec 355(b) CC
    •    Fail to comply – probation order

The male was released on a Form 10 Undertaking with a future court date of June 23, 2020, at the Robert S. K. Welch courthouse in St. Catharines.

A 16-year-old male from Hamilton is charged with the alleged criminal offences of:
    •    Possession for the purpose of trafficking a Schedule I Substance - cocaine - sec.  5(2) CDSA
    •    Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000 sec 355(b) CC
    •    Fail to comply – probation order

The male was released on a Form 10 Undertaking with a future court date of June 23, 2020, at the Robert S. K. Welch courthouse in St. Catharines.

Detectives seized approximately $1,000 of illegal drugs and $2,000 CDN as proceeds of crime.

Under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act the Niagara Regional Police is prohibited from identifying persons under the age of 18 who are charged with a criminal offence.
