Three charged after victim robbed at knifepoint: Niagara Police

On July 5, 2020, 2 District – Niagara Falls uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) commenced an investigation into a robbery. The robbery had occurred on the property of a hotel in the area of Lundy's Lane and Kalar Road in Niagara Falls.

The investigation determined that a male victim had been approached by two people one of whom was armed with a knife. The pair demanded and was given money from the victim. Officers located the pair along with a third male who was in possession of the victim's property in a hotel room where they were arrested.

The investigation was taken over by Detectives from the 2 District Detective Office.

Melinda Justine Bell (49 years) of Niagara Falls is charged with the alleged offence of: 

  • Robbery

Michael David Copeland (50 years) of Niagara Falls is charged with the alleged offences of: 

  • Robbery  
  • Possession of a Controlled Schedule 1 Substance (Fentanyl)

Timothy William Morin (45 years) of Niagara Falls is charged with the alleged offence of:  

  • Possession of Stolen Property

Bell and Copeland were held in custody pending a bail hearing on July 5, 2020. Morin was released from custody on a Form 10 Undertaking with a court date of Sept. 9, 2020.

The victim was not injured.

A room in the hotel was held as a crime scene. Detectives applied for and received judicial authorization to collect evidence within the room. The room was subsequently released.
