Store owner interrupts robbery

Police seek three men who escaped Welland establishment with a large quantity of jewelry

At about 5:10 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019, Niagara Regional Police officers responded to a report of a break and enter that had just occurred at 620 Niagara Street in Welland. The premise located at the address, Coins Unlimited, is a retailer dealing in coins, rarities and other valuables.

Responding officers would learn that the owner of the business had interrupted three male suspects who were in the process of fleeing his business after having broken into the store, causing thousands of dollars of damage and stealing a large quantity of jewelry.

The owner had briefly managed to detain one of the suspects before they were able to flee along Niagara Street in a black SUV style vehicle.

Police are requesting that anyone who may have witnessed either the incident itself, or the escape of the black SUV along Niagara Street, to contact Detectives in the Welland Detective Office at (905) 688-4111 ext. 3300.
