St. Catharines man charged after school threat posted to social media

On May 23, 2019, the Niagara Regional Police Service was contacted by the Royal Canadian Mounted police regarding an online threat that was believed to have come from within the Niagara Region.

Detectives from 1 District St. Catharines Criminal Investigations Branch commenced an investigation. Detectives were granted a search warrant to a residence in the area of Grantham Avenue and Facer Street in the City of St. Catharines.

As a result of the investigation, detectives have arrested 27-year-old John Stirtzinger of St. Catharines with the alleged offence of:
    •    uttering threats

The threat which was posted to a public forum on a social media platform was about targeting a school. No school was directly named.

Stirtzinger was released with a future court date at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
