Sexual assault victim, in her 70s, was attacked in St. Catharines industrial/commercial area

She has been released from hospital and is recovering at home after suffering serious injuries

Detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Service are continuing to investigate a sexual assault that occurred on June 18, 2020, in the Hydro Hill area of St. Catharines.

Detectives have now determined that the victim was first attacked as she walked eastbound, along the edge of the roadway on Lockhart Drive, she was then forced into the nearby woods. This area has been determined to be an industrial/commercial area at the western end of Lockhart Dr.

The victim in this matter has been released from hospital and is recovering at home.

The suspect is described as: 

  • Tan Skin 
  • 25-35 years old  
  • 5’7-5’10 
  • Dark eyes  
  • Scruffy facial hair  
  • Dark short, wavy hair  
  • Skinny athletic "strong" build

Clothing Description: 

  • Black bottoms  
  • Grey Shirt with black pattern or symbol on the front The identity of the suspect is unknown. 

The Niagara Regional Police are asking members of the public to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious persons to the police.

Detectives are requesting the assistance of residents, business operators or motorists who live, work or were driving in the area (1-2 km radius) with video surveillance. Persons in the area with video surveillance from the 2-3 hours before the sexual assault to the 1 hour (9 a.m. - 1 p.m.) after it are asked to review the footage for the suspect or anything suspicious in nature that may be related to this incident.

Anyone with information, who may have witnessed the incident, or may have been in the area, is asked to call detectives from the Sexual Assault Unit at 905-688-4111, extension 9450.
