Since May, 2019 members of the Niagara Regional Police Guns and Gangs Unit and the Morality Unit have been investigating a male regarding his involvement in the suspected mobile sales of crack cocaine and powdered cocaine in the City of St. Catharines.
As a result of the investigation, Police applied for and were granted a Controlled Drugs and Substance Act search warrant for a residence in the north east end of St. Catharines.
On June 6 2019, at approximately 5:00 a.m., members of the Emergency Task Unit executed the aforementioned search warrant at this location. Upon entry into this residence two individuals were arrested without incident.
A search at this location yielded a quantity of crack cocaine, powder cocaine, morphine tablets, Canadian currency and a handgun with ammunition. The one arrested person was found to be bound by a firearms prohibition at the time of their arrest.
Arrested and charged was 34-year-old Devon Barrett of St. Catharines with possession for the purpose of trafficking (x2), possession of proceeds of crime under $5000, and six additional counts relating to the restricted firearm and ammunition seized.
Arrested and charged was 29-year-old Jody King of St. Catharines with possession for the purpose of trafficking (x2), possession of proceeds of crime under $5000, and five additional counts relating to the restricted firearm and ammunition seized.
In total police seized a 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun with a magazine with ammunition and powder cocaine, crack cocaine and morphine with an estimated street value of $6000. Police also seized $1500 in currency believed to be proceeds of drug sales.
Barrett was held pending a bail hearing scheduled for June 6, 2019 and King was released on a Promise to Appear.
