Potential charges pending after incident at Welland high school

A 17-year-old has been arrested following a disturbance at Notre Dame College in Welland. Two students were injured, one taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the other with minor injuries

Update 1

Further investigation has revealed that following an altercation within the school involving four students, one student was stabbed.

A 17-year-old male was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries while a 15-year old-male was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. 

A 17-year-old male student was arrested and is currently in police custody.

Further information in regards to charges laid is anticipated later this evening.

Original Release

At approximately 11 a.m. on Wednesday May 1, 2019, 3 District (Welland) Uniform officers were called to Notre Dame College in Welland over the report of a disturbance.

Further investigation by 3 District (Welland) Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) detectives has revealed that two students were injured; both were transported to hospital for treatment.

One student suffered minor injuries while the other was taken to an out of town hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

A third student was arrested at the school and is currently in police custody.

As a result of the investigation, Notre Dame and St. Kevin's Elementary school (due to proximity) were placed in to hold and secure modes.

We anticipate releasing further information as the investigation continues within the next 24 hours.
