Port Colborne resident accused of striking victim with a baseball bat, stealing his property

Police say the victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries

On Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020 at approximately 6:43 a.m., 6 District (Port Colborne) uniform officers, attended the area of West Street and Clarence Street, in the City of Port Colborne, in regards to a robbery.

Initial information revealed two males were at a residence, when a 39-year-old male struck a 37-year-old male with a baseball bat and proceeded to steal the victim’s personal property. The suspect then barricaded himself in the residence and refused to exit.

As a result, detectives were granted a search warrant. The warrant was executed at approximately 12:20 p.m. at which time the accused was arrested.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

William Cripps (39 years old), of Port Colborne, was arrested and charged with the alleged following offences of:

  • Robbery
  • Fail to comply with probation order (two counts)

Cripps was held in custody, pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place on Oct. 22, 2020, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street, in the City of St. Catharines.
