Police seize fentanyl during drug investigation in Fort Erie

In February of 2021,  5 District (Fort Erie) detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) commenced an investigation into the sale of illegal drugs.

Detectives were able to identify a residence in relation to the investigation in the area of Bertie Street and Waterloo Street, in the Town Of Fort Erie.

On February 19, 2021, detectives executed a warrant. As a result, four suspects were arrested.

Cheryl Lafontaine (58 years) of Fort Erie, was arrested and charged with the following offence of: 

  • Possession of a schedule I substance (fentanyl) for the purpose of trafficking

Lafontaine was released on a Form 10-Undertaking, and is scheduled to appear at court on April 20, 2021.

Tashina Cudmore (33 years) of Fort Erie, was arrested and charged with the following offences of : 

  • Possession of a schedule I substance (fentanyl) for the purpose of trafficking 
  • Fail to appear

Cudmore was released on a Form 10-Undertaking,  and is scheduled to appear at court on April 20, 2021.

Gilles Larocque (51 years) of Fort Erie, was arrested and charged with the following offences of: 

  • Possession of a schedule I substance (fentanyl) 
  • Possession of a schedule I substance (crystal meth)

Larocque was released on Form 10-Undertaking, and is scheduled  to appear at court on April 20, 2021.

Jeremy Schmidt (42 years) of Fort Erie, was arrested and charged with the following offence of: 

  • Fail to comply with a release order

Schmidt was held in custody pending a bail hearing that took place on Feb. 20, 2021.

Subsequently, as a result of the investigation, 4.4 grams of fentanyl was seized.
