Police release additional information in fatal pedestrian crash

Update:
Further investigation by detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit has revealed that a 79-year-old Niagara Falls female pedestrian was crossing Lundy’s Lane when she was struck by an eastbound 2009 Ford Ranger that was being operated by a 66-year-old Thorold male.

This pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital before being pronounced.

The driver of the Ford did not suffer any physical injuries in this collision.

This collision remains under investigation by the Coroner's Office and Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Service’s Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Original release:
At approximately 5:50 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, 2 District (Niagara Falls) uniform officers responded to the report of a collision in the area of Lundy's Lane and Kalar Road in the City of Niagara Falls.

When officers arrived, accompanied by paramedics from Niagara Emergency Medical Services and Niagara Falls Fire Service, they discovered that a pedestrian had been struck by a black Ford pickup truck.

The female pedestrian was found to be in critical condition at the scene and resuscitative efforts were commenced by emergency services personnel. The pedestrian transported to a local hospital where she was subsequently pronounced deceased.

Lundy's Lane between Kalar Road and Montrose is currently closed. The businesses in the area remain open and accessible to pedestrian traffic only.

Members of the public should expect that the roads will be closed for a good portion of the morning and plan on finding alternative routes. That investigation is being led by detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit along with the Forensic Services Unit.

The identity of the deceased is not being released as detectives attempt to locate and notify the next of kin.
