Police investigate St. Catharines shooting

On March 17, 2020, at approximately 6:40 p.m. emergency services personnel responded to a multi-unit residence in the area of Niagara Street and Church Street in St Catharines for a report of a shooting.

Uniform officers and detectives from the 1 District St. Catharines office of the Niagara Regional Police Service arrived on scene. Officers located a male suffering from a gunshot wound and administered 1st aid.

Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics and St Catharines Fire Service firefighters arrived on scene took over medical care. The male was transported from the scene in serious condition. He was subsequently transferred to an out of town trauma centre.

The crime scene was contained by officers as they searched for a suspect. A K9 team from the NRPS K9 Unit attended the scene as well. Officers were unable to locate a suspect.

The investigation is ongoing by detectives. Interviews are being conducted to develop a suspect description.

Residents and businesses in the area with closed-circuit video camera systems are asked to review footage for today's date between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. for any suspicious activity.
