Police investigate after jogger sexually assaulted in Welland

On Thursday, Sept. 17, at approximately 7 a.m., 3 District (Welland) uniform officers responded to the area of Prince Charles Drive and Fitch Street, in the City of Welland, in regards to a sexual assault that had just occurred.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a female with minor injuries.

Initial investigation revealed that a female in her 40s was jogging through a trail, in the area of Prince Charles Drive and Fitch Street. Subsequently, an unknown male grabbed the female and forced her to the ground, where she was sexually assaulted. As a result, the victim sustained minor injuries. The male fled the scene, on foot.

The female was transported to a local hospital by Niagara EMS paramedics.

The Niagara Regional Police are seeking the public’s help in locating the suspect.

The suspect is described as:  

  • White  
  • Male  
  • 5’5

Clothing description:  

  • Dark pants  
  • Black hoodie

The identity of the suspect is unknown. The Niagara Regional Police are asking members of the public to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings.

The Niagara Regional Police are asking members of the public to stay out of the area as the investigation is active and ongoing. 

Anyone with information, who may have witnessed the incident,  or may have been in the area and observed a suspect matching the description, is asked to contact detectives from the Sexual Assault Unit at 905-688-4111 extension 5110.

Vehicles with dash cams that may have been in the area at the time of the incident, residents and local businesses are asked to review their video footage and contact the Niagara Regional Police Service if they observe anything suspicious.
