Police exercise 'abundance of caution' after suspicious package reported in Niagara Falls

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019, 2 District (Niagara Falls) uniform officers were called to the area of Victoria Avenue and Simcoe Street in the City of Niagara Falls over the report of a suspicious package in the area.

Out of an abundance of caution, the intersection was closed to traffic while the Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) and Emergency Task Unit (ETU) investigated the contents.

It was determined that the package was not a risk to the public and it was disposed of accordingly.

The area was re-opened to traffic and pedestrians at approximately 5 p.m.
