Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) Uniform officers from the 3 District (Welland) office were called to the area of 200 Denistoun Street (6 level building) in Welland for a report of a found package.

On July 3, 2019, at approximately 9:30 a.m. subcontractors on the property found an object in the bush line near the residences. The appearance of the object caused concern for the sub-contractors and they called the NRPS.

3 District officers arrived on-scene to conduct an investigation.  As a result of that investigation and out of an abundance of caution the NRPS Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) was contacted and requested to attend to assist.

Residents in the nearby building were evacuated to safe areas.

The object was examined by EDU officers. As a result the object was determined to have not been a threat to public safety. The object was deemed safe shortly after 1 p.m.

The investigation has determined that there was no foul play or criminality.
