Pickup truck used to tear ATM out of St. Catharines grocery store

Business suffered an estimated $5,000 in damages

On Monday, May 13, 2019 at approximately 4:30 a.m. uniform officers from the 1 District St. Catharines office of the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to a report of a commercial break-in, in progress. Information from members of the public was that the Food Basics Store at 275 Geneva St. was being broken into.

Officers arrived on scene minutes later to find the front glass had been broken. Further investigation determined that an ATM had been torn from its mounts by a pickup truck. The truck containing the ATM fled the scene prior to officers arriving, last seen west bound on the North Service Road.

Damage to the business is estimated at $5,000. The value of the contents of the ATM is not being released.

The pickup truck is described as dark in colour with a crew cab.

Two suspects were involved. One of the suspects is described as wearing:
    •    gloves
    •    dark coloured face covering
    •    black pants
    •    camouflage hooded sweatshirt
