Pickup drives into Wainfleet business, suspects make off with ATM

Officers from the 6 District Port Colborne office of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) are investigating a commercial break and enter that occurred in Wainfleet.

On Nov. 18, 2019 at approximately 5:30 a.m., officers were called to the Esso Gas Station on Highway 3 near Burnaby Road in Wainfleet. Officers responded there for a report of a possible break and enter in progress.

Officers arrived on scene to find that a pickup truck had been driven into the front of the business. The unknown suspects are believed to have then entered the Esso and stole the onsite automated teller machine (ATM) and other merchandise.

The pickup truck that was driven into the Esso was found in close proximately. It had caught on fire and was extinguished by the Wainfleet Fire Service.

The damage to the building and its contents are extensive.

The suspects are described as:

Suspect 1 - medium build, wearing a tan coloured heavy work coat and dark pants

Suspect 2 - approximately 5'10", with an average build and wearing long pants and a jacket with checkers on it

The suspects are believed to have fled south bound on Burnaby Road in a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, with Ontario licence plate #AV87018. The pickup truck is believed to be stolen from a Port Colborne business within the hours before the break and enter.

Residents and any commercial properties in the area are asked to review their closed circuit cameras for any suspicious activity or any footage that may match the suspect descriptions in the hours before the incident and shortly after.

The investigation remains ongoing by detectives from the 3 District Criminal Investigations Branch. Anyone with information is asked to contact the detectives by calling 905-688-411, ext. 3300.
