Pedestrian airlifted to hospital following collision in St. Catharines

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019, the Niagara Emergency Medical Services, St. Catharines Fire Service and the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian on Lake Street at Lakeshore Road in the City of St. Catharines, within the Regional Municipality of Niagara, Ontario.

Initial investigation revealed that a 2013 Nissan Rogue was being driven by a 69-year-old male westbound on Lakeshore Road and was making a left-hand turn to proceed southbound onto Lake Street when it struck an 84-year-old female pedestrian within the crosswalk. The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital before being air lifted to an out of town hospital. The driver of the Nissan did not suffer any physical injuries.

This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit.Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact investigators at (905) 688-4111 ext. 5500.
