Earlier today the Niagara Regional Police released an announcement that Constable Nathan Parker had been arrested. See that release here.

At a press conference this afternoon, Niagara Regional Police Chief Bryan MacCulloch confirmed the OPP arrested and charged Const. Nathan Parker, regarding the incident in Pelham on November 29, 2018.

After that incident, in which Parker had been shot several times, fellow officer Shane Donovan was subsequently arrested and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. See story here.

Now Parker is facing charges of assaulting a police officer, assault with intent to resist arrest, and assault with a weapon.

McCulloch said he asked the OPP, as an impartial third party, to investigate at the time of the incident.

He later added, “The purpose of calling in the OPP is to have them investigate any criminal culpability that may have been outside the SIU mandate.”

“What I do need to be clear on is that the impact that this event has on had on our service and our members - and it has been profound,” he said. “I can assure you that the public trust that we are so privileged to receive from our community cannot and is not taken for granted.”

He added, “This is not over; not for our members; not for the community and not for the officers or their families.”
