One dead, another airlifted to hospital following head-on crash in Niagara-on-the-Lake

On July 29, 2020, at approximately 2:50 p.m. emergency services personnel responded to a report of a serious injury collision on Niagara Stone Road in Niagara on the Lake.

2 District (Niagara Falls) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) arrived on scene in the area of Niagara Stone Road at Eastchester Avenue. The initial investigation determined that two cars had been involved in a head on collision. 

Paramedics from Niagara Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) and members of the Niagara on the Lake Fire Service attended to the two people involved in the collision. The driver of one of the cars was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the second car was transported from the scene by paramedics with critical injuries to a local hospital. The second driver was then transported to an out of region hospital by an Ornge air ambulance helicopter.

Niagara Stone Road is closed from Stewart Road to Airport Road, while the collision is under investigation by detectives from the NRPS Collison Reconstruction Unit. The road closures will likely be in effect into the evening. Members of the public are asked to find alternative routes.

The Reconstruction Unit detectives are being assisted by detectives from the Forensic Services Unit and officer's from the Traffic Enforcement Unit.

More details will be provided once the next of kin notifications have been completed and the matter has been investigated further by detectives.
