One arrested in series of Niagara Falls storage unit break ins

Since June of 2020, the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) has been investigating a series of commercial break and enters that occurred in the City of Niagara Falls, involving a male suspect.

The investigation led by detectives from the 2 District – Niagara Falls Street Crime Unit, revealed that the break and enters took place at multiple storage units, in the area of Stanley Avenue and Church’s Lane, in the City of Niagara Falls.

On Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020, detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in the area of Ascot Circle and Preakness Street, in the City of Niagara Falls and four storage units associated to the suspect. As a result, detectives were able to seize a large amount of property that had been stolen.

On Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020, the suspect was arrested.

Shane Cowell (33 years old) of, Niagara Falls, Ontario, was arrested and charged with the alleged Criminal Code of Canada offences of:

  • Break and Enter Commit Theft
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon

Cowell was held in custody for a video a bail hearing on Sept. 25, 2020, at the Robert S.K. Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street, in the City of St. Catharines.
