At approximately 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, 5 District (Fort Erie) uniform officers were called to the area of the Central Avenue QEW overpass in the Town of Fort Erie for the report of a person in distress.
Shortly after officers arrived, the 28-year-old male fell from the bridge onto the ground below. He was transported to an out-of-town hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.
As a result of an interaction with an officer and the male, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked their mandate. The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency that investigates incidents involving police officers where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
