Mother's name released in Niagara Falls infant death investigation

Following consultation with the next of kin of the victim, the name of the accused in this incident is now being released.

Twenty-five-year-old Georgina Anne Lowe of the City of Niagara Falls is facing the following alleged charge:

  • First degree murder

At approximately 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, 2 District Uniform officers were called to a residence in the area of Barker Street and Dorchester Road in the City of Niagara Falls following the report of a sudden death.

When emergency crews arrived, a six month old female was discovered without vital signs. The infant was taken to hospital where she was subsequently pronounced deceased.

Following an investigation by 2 District (Niagara Falls) Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB), Forensic Services Unit (FSU) and Homicide Unit, the 25-year-old mother of the infant was arrested.

The female is facing the following alleged charge:

  • First degree murder

The female is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines via video link on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019.

The name of the accused will not be released in the interest of protecting the identity of the victim.
