Man sought after sexual assault in St. Catharines park

Residents and any businesses in the area are asked to review their closed circuit video camera footage

Sexual Assault Unit Detectives are investigating sexual assault on a 20 year old woman in central St. Catharines.

Detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Service Sexual Assault Unit investigating this incident have learned that it occurred today, March 26, 2020, between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Park in St Catharines.  The park is bordered by Maple Street, Catherine Street, Russell Avenue and Woodland Avenue.

The female victim was walking north bound through the park on the Terry Fox Trail and an unknown male approached her from behind and sexually accosted.  The female turned around, yelled at the male and he ran away.  The male was last seen running south towards Maple Street.

The unknown male suspect is described as:

  • White
  • 30-35 years of age
  • thin build

He was wearing a jacket and blue jeans. 

Residents and any businesses in the area are asked to review their closed circuit video camera footage for a man fitting that description or anything suspicious in the time period before and after the offence.
