Lengthy investigation leads to drug trafficking charges in Niagara Falls

Police say they seized drugs with an estimated total street value of $182,220, as well as Canadian currency

Since the middle of 2019, detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS), 2 District (Niagara Falls) Street Crime Unit, have been conducting an investigation into the sales of crystal methamphetamine and cocaine, from a male suspect, in the City of Niagara Falls.

As a result of the investigation, detectives were able to identify the male suspect. Detectives determined the male was active in the sale of illegal drugs from a Niagara Falls home, a car, and residence in Port Colborne.

On Oct. 27, 2020, detectives executed a search warrant in the area of Kevin Drive and Alpine Drive, in the City of Niagara Falls. Subsequently, detectives seized 1202.8 grams of Crystal Methamphetamine, 506.8 grams of Cocaine, 4.8 grams of MDMA, 2.6 grams of fentanyl and $152,900 in Canadian currency. The total street value of drugs is estimated to be $182,220.

Steven G. Menezes, 37 years old, of Toronto, Ont., was arrested and charged with the following offences of:  

  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking  
  • Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking  
  • Possession of crystal methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking 
  • Possession of MDMA for the purpose of trafficking  
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000

Menezes was held in custody pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place on Oct. 28, 2020, at the Robert S.K Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street, in the City of St. Catharines.
