Indecent act in Welland under investigation

Police say the suspect pulled a knife on a woman after she found him performing an indecent act in Merritt Park

On Oct. 14, 2020 at approximately 11:30 a.m., 3 District Welland uniform officers responded to Merritt Park on Merritt Island in Welland regarding an indecent act complaint.

Uniform officers along with a K9 Unit attended the Park. The initial investigation determined that at approximately 11 a.m., an 18-year-old woman had been walking in the park when she noticed a man in a bush alone performing an indecent act. The man approached the woman and pulled out a knife. The woman threw her coffee on the man which caused him to walk out of the area. The woman lost sight of the man as he fled the area through the trails on foot. 3 District officers and the K9 Unit searched the area but were unable to find the man.

The woman was not physically injured.

The investigation has been taken over by detectives from the 3 District detective office.

The suspect has been described as:

  • In his 20s
  • South Asian male (lighter skin tone)
  • Approximately 5'10"
  • Approximately 150 lbs (thin build)
  • Dark scruffy facial hair
  • Possibly wearing a dark hat or tuque
  • Black scarf on face
  • Black hooded sweater with a grey design on the mid-section with a red ring in the center
  • Blue jeans
  • Possibly dark coloured shoes.
