NIAGARA REGIONAL POLICE
**************************
In January of 2019, members of the Niagara Regional Police Marine/Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, assisted by the Emergency Task Unit, commenced a ground search of the Welland Canal.

The ground search took place in the area between Lock 1 and Lock 2 after that portion of the Canal was emptied of water.

During the course of the search, officers located human remains. Working with the NRPS Forensic Service Unit and the office of the Coroner, the remains were recovered and sent for examination. At the time of recovery, the identity of the found remains was unknown.

On Feb. 22, 2019, detectives were contacted by the office of the Coroner and learned the identity of the deceased. As a result detectives have met with the next of kin to advise them of their findings. The deceased has been identified as Quintin Bingley of the City of St. Catharines. Foul play is not suspected.

At this time, the Bingley family has requested privacy.

The Police would like to thank the community for their continued interest and assistance in this case.
