Human remains found in St. Catharines identified

Sept. 25 update:
As a result of the ongoing investigation by 1 District St. Catharines detectives, the deceased has been identified.

Foul play is not suspected. 

Out of respect for the next of kin the identity of the deceased is not being released.

Original Sept. 12 release
On Friday, Sept. 11, 2020 at approximately 12:40 p.m., 1 District (St. Catharines) Uniform Officers, attended the Burgoyne Woods Park in the City of St. Catharines regarding possible human remains.

A member of the public contacted the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) when they located the remains, on a hike.

Investigation revealed that the remains were in fact human.

The identity of the deceased has not been confirmed.

The investigation remains ongoing by detectives out of 1 district and the office of the coroner.
