HEAT team investigation leads to arrest

In January 2019, the Niagara Regional Police Service, Central Fraud Unit, commenced an investigation into an alleged fraud and theft of construction equipment from a West Lincoln business, Havana Group Incorporated. 

As a result of a lengthy investigation, on June 12, 2019, the Niagara Regional Police Central Fraud Unit, with the assistance of Hamilton Police Major Fraud Branch and High Enforcement Action Team (HEAT), arrested and charged Ancaster resident, Steven Sardinha, 46 years, with the following offences:

  • Theft over $5,000
  • Mischief over $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Uttering threats
  • Obtaining by false pretence
  • Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence

The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse, 59 Church St. in St. Catharines, on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 9 a.m.

This investigation remains ongoing.
