Four charged, including three youth, after car stolen at gunpoint

On Jan. 15, 2020 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Niagara Regional Police Service 1 District – St. Catharines officers responded to a report of an armed robbery.

Officers attended the area of St. Paul Street West and Louth Street and met with a male victim. The investigation determined the male victim had planned to provide a ride to the four male suspects. 

A dispute occurred which resulted in the male victim's vehicle being stolen at gunpoint. The male suspects all fled the scene in the stolen vehicle.

The subsequent investigation by detectives has led to the arrest of all four males.

Detectives have arrested an adult male and three persons under the age of 18.

Dante Lamar Young (19 years old) of St. Catharines is charged with alleged Criminal Code of Canada offence of:

  • Robbery using firearm section 344(1)(a.1)

A 17-year-old male from St. Catharines is charged with alleged Criminal Code of Canada offences of:

  • Robbery using firearm section 344(1)(a.1)
  • Fail to comply with sentence or disposition section 137 YCJA

A 17-year-old male from Thorold is charged with alleged Criminal Code of Canada offences of:

  • Robbery using firearm section 344(1)(a.1)
  • Fail to comply with sentence or disposition section 137 YCJA (3 Counts)

A 16-year-old male from St. Catharines is charged with alleged Criminal Code of Canada offence of:

  • Robbery using firearm section 344(1)(a.1)

The males are scheduled to appear at a bail hearing via video to the John Sopinka Courthouse in Hamilton on Jan. 18, 2020.

The stolen vehicle, a red four-door Nissan Sentra was located on today's date.

The Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada prohibits the Niagara Regional Police Service from releasing the identity of young persons who have been charged with a criminal offence.
