On Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, members of the Niagara Regional Police attended the cities of Port Colborne and St. Catharines to conduct R.I.D.E. checkpoints.

Officers stopped approximately 600 vehicles throughout the afternoon and early evening. Of the vehicles stopped, a total of 26 drivers were administered a roadside screening test. Four of these drivers provided samples in the warning range and subsequently, had their drivers licences suspended for three days.

In addition to the roadside suspensions, several drivers were also charged with various traffic related offences.

The Niagara Regional Police Service remain committed to reducing impaired driving offences through education and the apprehension of offenders through enforcement programs like R.I.D.E. Impaired driving is still the leading criminal offence causing deaths in Canada.

This initiative has been made possible, in part, as a result of grant funding from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services as part of the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) program.
