NIAGARA FALLS - On Wednesday, July 3, 2019, members of the Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit (PWEU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), executed a search warrant at a residence in St. David, Ontario.
As a result of the warrant being executed, police seized:
- Two GSG 1911 .22 calibre converted firearms (restricted)
- Two airsoft guns
- Two non-restricted firearms (16 gauge shot gun - 7.62x.39 SKS rifle)
- 7.62x39 ammunition
- 22LR ammunition
- Numerous components and tools used to manufacture restricted firearms
- Evidence of previously manufactured and trafficked restricted firearms
- Documentation related to manufacturing and trafficking of firearms
- Xanax, psilocybin, OxyContin
Taige Johnston, 23 years-of-age from St. David, Ont. was arrested and charged with:
- Manufacturing and trafficking a restricted or prohibited firearm CCC 99
- Unauthorized possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm CCC 91 (1)
- Knowingly possess a restricted or prohibited firearm CCC 92 (1)
- Unauthorized possession of a non-restricted CCC 91 (1)
- Knowingly possess a non-restricted CCC 92 (1)
- Possession of a controlled Substance CDSA 4(1)
The accused was held for a bail hearing in Niagara Falls, Ont.

The Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit (PWEU) is a joint forces investigative unit under the direction of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The PWEU mandate is to identify and take enforcement action against persons involved in the illegal movement of firearms, ammunitions and explosives. This includes the Criminal Code offences of Smuggling, Trafficking and the Possession of "Crime Guns."
