E-bike operator suffers serious injuries in collision

On Oct. 27, 2020, at approximately 8:05 p.m., 2 District – Niagara Falls uniform officers along with the Niagara Falls Fire Service and Niagara Emergency Medical Services responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision in Niagara Falls. 

Emergency services attended to the area of Kalar Road between Beaverdams Road and Paddock Trail Drive. Officers conducted their initial investigation and determined an E-bike had been involved in a collision with a green 2003 Dodge Caravan.

The driver of the ebike, a 56-year-old man from Niagara Falls was treated at the scene by paramedics for his injuries and transported to a local hospital.  The man was subsequently transported by Ornge air ambulance to an out of region hospital with what was believed to be life-threatening injuries. 

The driver of the Caravan was arrested at the scene.  

Carl Henry Dunn (56 years old) of Niagara Falls has been arrested and charged with the offences of: 

  • Impaired operation conveyance/bodily harm contrary to sec. 320.14(2) of the Criminal Code.  
  • Impaired operation conveyance/exceed BAC contrary to sec. 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

Dunn was transported to the Niagara Regional Police Service Prisoner Management Unit in Niagara Falls where he was later released on a Form 10 Undertaking with a future court date.

The victim's condition has been upgraded. He remains in the hospital with serious injuries that are believed to no longer be life threatening.

Dunn has been issued an Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS). The ADLS, is issued to everyone charged with similar driving offences.  The ADLS prohibits Dunn from operating a motor vehicle for 90 days from date it was issued.
