On Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, detectives from for the 1 District – St. Catharines Street Crime Unit were in the area of Merritt Street and Chestnut Street in St. Catharines. The detectives observed a man who was known to them driving a white 2004 Buick Rendezvous.
With the assistance of 1 District uniform officers, a traffic stop of the Buick took place in the area of Welland Avenue and Bunting Road in St. Catharines. The identity of the driver was confirmed and he was arrested for failing to comply with previous release orders.
A search of the man and the Buick lead to the seizure of suspected illegal drugs and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
David Cameron Firth (51 years old) of Owen Sound, Ont. has been arrested and charged with the criminal offences of:
• Fail to comply with release order contrary to Section 145(5)of the Criminal Code (three counts)
• Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to Section 5(2)of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to wit crystal methamphetamine
• Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to section 5(2)of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to wit fentanyl
• Possession of a schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to Section 5(2)of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to wit benzodiazepine
• Possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5,000 contrary to Section 355(b) of the Criminal Code
Firth was held in custody to attend a bail hearing. That video bail hearing will take place on Feb. 26, 2021, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
