Copper and aluminum wires stolen in Welland

On Friday March 8, 2024 at 9:30 a.m., 3 District (Welland) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police were dispatched to the area of Humberstone Road and Thorold Townline Road in the City of Welland for a belated theft.

Investigation revealed an unknown person used a ladder to climb a telephone pole to cut and steal cable at approximately 3:00 a.m. on March 8, 2024. Approximately 200 meters of the copper wire was stolen. The total loss is estimated to be in excess of $10,000.

The suspect/s also cut 3 low thick gauge aluminum wires from a telephone pole across the road.

The estimated overall damage including an estimated cost of repair to the line to be in excess of $10,000 to $15,000.

The suspect/suspects appear to be operating a white van/truck type of vehicle.

The investigation remains ongoing by the Niagara Regional Police Service. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009746.
