Cocaine seized as search warrant used to recover stolen property in St. Catharines

On Feb. 21, 2020, 1 District – St. Catharines uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) attended to a break and enter investigation at the Port Wellor Community Centre on Bogart Street in St. Catharines.

It was determined at that time that an unknown suspect had broken into an onsite storage container and stole some of the contents. The stolen items included mobility chairs and therapeutic / fitness equipment.

On April 27, 2020, officers from the 1 District office of the NRPS received information from the public that a residence in the area of Parnell Road and Vine Street in St. Catharines contained stolen property. Officers contained the address and detectives from the 1 District Street Crime Unit sought a search warrant.

The detectives received judicial authorization and subsequently conducted a search of the property. Detectives recovered some of the stolen property.

In relation to the search warrant on April 27, 2020, detectives arrested and charged a local man. At the time of his arrest, the man was found to be in possession of cocaine.

Shawn Christopher Moroz (43 years old) of St. Catharines is charged with the alleged criminal offences of:
    •    Possession of stolen property over $5,000 S.355(a)CC
    •    Possession of a controlled substance – Cocaine 4(1)CDSA
    •    Fail to comply – probation order – 733.1CC

Moroz was held in custody to attend a video bail hearing on April 28, 2020, to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
