Update

Further investigation by the Niagara Regional Police Service Homicide Unit has resulted in a charge laid against a male suspect following the death of a 31-year-old woman in Grimsby.

Thirty-nine-year-old Mark Burrell of Toronto is facing the alleged charge of:

  • second degree murder

Burrell has been remanded into custody pending a bail hearing on February 6th at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines. 

Investigators can confirm the victim and the suspect were known to each other.

Original release

On February 1, 2019, at approximately 4:30am uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service 8 District Grimsby office responded to a business in the area of Main Street East and Bartlett Avenue in Grimsby.  

Officers and Paramedics from Niagara Emergency Medical Services arrived on-scene to find a female requiring medical care for serious injuries.  The female was transported to a local hospital where she has died.
