British Columbia man faces kidnapping, theft charges in Niagara Falls incident

Police say he asked two women for a ride and when they said no, drove the vehicle away with one of them inside

At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, 2 District (Niagara Falls) uniform officers were called to a gas station in the area of Drummond Rd and Morrison St in the City of Niagara Falls.

Investigation by officers with the 2 District Detective Office has found that two females were approached by a man who asked for a ride to another location. When they refused, he got inside the car and started to drive with one of the females still inside. 

The male suspect then drove a short distance before stopping the vehicle and fleeing on foot. He was arrested a short distance away by uniform officers.

43-year-old Roberto Mastromatteo of British Columbia is facing the following alleged charges:

  • Kidnapping - 279(1)a – CC
  • Theft of motor vehicle - 333.1(1) CC

Mastromatteo is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, via video link at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.
