Attempted murder charge laid in Niagara Falls stabbing investigation

At approximately 5 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019, 2 District (Niagara Falls) Uniform officers were called to a coffee shop in the area of Murray Street and Stanley Avenue in the City of Niagara Falls following the report of a stabbing.

Further investigation by the 2 District detective office has revealed a male approached a 35-year-old male and stabbed him before fleeing on foot. He was arrested a short distance later by uniform officers.

The victim was treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Thirty-three-year-old Alex McNaughton of no fixed address is facing the following alleged charges:
    •    Carry concealed weapon contrary to Sec. 90(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Aggravated assault contrary to sec. 268 (1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Possession of a weapons for a dangerous purpose contrary to sec. 88(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Attempted murder contrary to sec. 239(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

McNaughton is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Monday, Dec. 16, 2019 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.
