Arrest made in Niagara Falls fatal hit and run

Niagara Falls man, aged 26, faces fail to remain after collision charge

In the evening hours of March 26, 2020, 2 District Niagara Falls uniform officers while on patrol located a grey Mazda 3 in the area of Hemlock Street and Alex Avenue in the City of Niagara Falls.

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit attended the scene and confirmed the Mazda was the car involved in the fatal fail to remain collision the occurred on March 19, 2020.

On March 27, 2020, on the strength of a search warrant detectives seized the Mazda for further examination by the Forensic Services Unit.

On March 27, 2020, a man identified himself as the driver and turned himself in to detectives.

A 26-year-old man from Niagara Falls has been arrested and charged with the alleged Criminal Code of Canada offences of:

  • Failure to Stop After Accident Offence - S. 320.16 (1) CC

He was held in custody and will attend a video bail hearing on March 28, 2020, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.  

The name of the charged man is not being released at this time as to not compromise the ongoing investigation.  Further information may be released at a future date.
